The Health & Social Care curriculum at Jack Hunt Academy is designed to prepare students for meaningful, impactful careers in the rapidly growing fields of healthcare and social care, while developing well-rounded individuals of good character.

With over 1.5 million people working in the NHS and a similarly sized workforce in social care, the sector offers a wealth of opportunities. Our curriculum reflects this significance by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical awareness required to succeed in a diverse and evolving professional environment.

KEY STAGE 4

KS4 – GCSE Health & Social Care Learning Outcomes

By the end of Key Stage 4, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of health, social care, and early years sector principles.

  • Understand how to support individuals through life events, considering physical, emotional, social, and cultural needs.

  • Apply person-centred approaches in practical and theoretical contexts.

  • Develop communication skills including professional vocabulary, report writing, and reflective practice.

  • Analyse case studies and scenarios, making reasoned and ethical decisions.

  • Demonstrate empathy, respect, and ethical awareness when considering the needs of individuals.

  • Develop problem-solving skills to adapt to real-world care challenges.

  • Reflect on the impact of health and social care practices on individuals, families, and communities.

KEY STAGE 5

KS5 – Level 3 Health & Social Care Learning Outcomes

By the end of Key Stage 5, students will be able to:

  • Apply in-depth scientific knowledge, including Anatomy and Physiology, to underpin care practices.

  • Analyse complex health and social care situations and devise evidence-based solutions.

  • Critically evaluate policies, procedures, and ethical considerations in care provision.

  • Demonstrate advanced research, analytical, and data interpretation skills in practical and theoretical contexts.

  • Lead and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams, showing professionalism and integrity.

  • Understand diverse career pathways, including roles in nursing, social work, public health, therapy, and management.

  • Engage with workplace expectations, safeguarding, confidentiality, and holistic approaches to care.

  • Participate in enrichment opportunities such as work placements, volunteering, and health promotion initiatives to develop professional skills.

  • Reflect on the impact of societal, cultural, and ethical factors on care delivery and decision-making.
