Muslim Council of Peterborough Education Awards

On Thursday 29 September, Jack Hunt School hosted the Muslim Council of Peterborough Awards Evening, celebrating students' GCSE and A Level success from local secondary schools.

 The Muslim Council of Peterborough held its first annual education award evening on Thursday 29 September at Jack Hunt School. The aim of the event was to celebrate the success of all students in Peterborough irrespective of religion and culture. Over 60 students received awards for their GCSE and A level results.  They were the top three students at A Level or GCSE from eight secondary schools and five main mosques in Peterborough. These included Jack Hunt students; James Newton, Elizabeth Bowes and Sumayya Manji for their A Level results and Tapiwa Tandi, Iman Mustafa and Amardeep Singh for their GCSEs.

The Jack Hunt Head Prefect team also received certificates to thank them for their fantastic help during a Community Eid event held by the Council back in July.

Over 200 people attended the event including students, parents, teachers and members of senior management from local schools and mosques, guests and local dignitaries including Mrs Gillian Beasley; OBE, Councillor David Sanders ; Chief Executive Peterborough County Council, Mr Nav Malik; Mayor of Peterborough, Peterborough's new Assistant Chief Constable and Mrs Pamela Kilbey; Headteacher of Jack Hunt School. The organisers were also delighted to welcome special guest Mr Andrew Cook*; Ofsted Regional Director for the East of England and North West, who presented the awards to students.

The evening started with a performance of the National Anthem followed by students playing from Jack Hunt's music department.

One parent commented that,”It was a lovely evening and I felt privileged to be a part of the event. I would like see this type of event every year”.

 

The Chairman of the Muslim Council of Peterborough particularly appreciated the Jack Hunt School management and facilities team for their help and support facilitating all community events in the school, saying "We will arrange more events with Jack Hunt to bring different communities together to make our beautiful city Peterborough a better place to live."

The evening ended with traditional food from Pakistan being served for everyone to enjoy.
