Family Outdoor Education

SEN/D students and families attend an outdoor experience day

A group of our SEN/D students attended a ‘Family Outdoor Education’ experience at Nene Park, Peterborough. Students from our Physically and Hearing impaired HUBS were given the opportunity to undertake Nene Park’s orienteering course as well as visit the Visitor Centre and search out Nene Park’s wildlife areas.

Mrs Simmons, Hearing Impaired (HI) Teaching Assistant said, “It was a lovely experience for all our students and staff. It was great to see our students visit a local nature area and work with them in this environment.”  Klara Holabova HI Student said, “As this was my first ever visit to Nene Park, I enjoyed seeing some new wildlife, such as the birds but I didn’t enjoy the weather!” The visit was also attended by two of our students families, who had the opportunity to share this learning experience with their children. Despite some strong winds from Storm Gareth, we had an a really valuable and enjoyable day out.

A parent of a Year 8 pupil said “Even though it was very windy, I had a lovely day with you all yesterday. It was nice to spend quality time with Leo outside of school but in a school activity and meet all of the wonderful teachers who work with him and who I don’t get to see.”

Another parent added "All the students were very interested in the activities set for them and they worked together in groups using maps to find where they need to go. I really enjoyed my day with everyone yesterday. It wasn’t stressful, we took regular breaks from the wind when it became too much and was just an all-round lovely day. Thank you so much for this opportunity and I look forward to hopefully joining you again when another one arises. Thank you again to you all!”

We look forward to arranging more opportunities for our students!
